Venezuela Travel

Due to ongoing crime, unrest and instability throughout Venezuela, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) advises against all travel to the following areas: within 80km (50 miles) of the Colombian border in the states of Zulia, Tachira, Barinas, Apure and Bolívar; 80km (50 miles) from the Colombian border in Amazonas state, as far as 100km (62 miles) south of Puerto Ayacucho; within 40km (25 miles) of the rest of the Colombian border.

Travel to Venezuela is discouraged by the US State Department and the Canadian Ministry of Foreign Affairs due to the significant level of violent crime, the unstable political and economic situations and the decline in basic living conditions, including shortages of medication, food staples and water, in the country.

Reconsider travel to Venezuela due to crime, civil unrest, poor health infrastructure, and arbitrary arrest and detention of U.S. citizens. Some areas have increased risk. Read the entire Travel Advisory.
