Abel Tasman South Island Travel

Located on Tasman Bay and set close to Abel Tasman National Park, about an hour's travel from Nelson in the area colloquially called the South Island Riviera, Kaiteriteri has been many times voted as one of New Zealand's best beach regions and is the perfect stop-over point for sun seekers with a sense of adventure.

The Abel Tasman Coast Track, 53 kilometres/33 miles long, travels through lush native bush, over limestone cliffs and by golden sandy beaches. There are no roads making it a true nature expedition. In Kahurangi National Park, one can also hike the Heaphy Track which is 82 kilomteres/50 miles in length and covers craggy ranges, alpine meadows, tropical valleys and beautiful rugged coastline.

The Abel Tasman Coastal Track is one of New Zealand’s “Great Walks” and will take you 3-5 days to complete. Luckily you can see some of the best bits on a day walk. From the Marlborough Sounds drive towards Motueka and then over the hill to Takaka.

The Abel Tasman Coast Track is one of New Zealand’s nine Great Walks and perhaps the best easily accessible trail on the South Island. Abel Tasman offers pristine coastline, the trail itself is excellent with little gain in elevation, and the temperate climate makes the hike enjoyable year-round.
